I CHING GUA FOR THE NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN
We not only rang in a New Year at midnight on January 1, we also experienced a New Moon at 7:14 AM Eastern time on the First. Lots of new energy to begin the year!
As one of my practices I cast an I Ching Gua (a hexagram of yin and yang lines) on each new moon to “read” the energies that are coming in for us. The I Ching or “book of change” can be used as a divination tool, not so much to predict what is coming but to get a sense of the energies of change that may be coming up through the month. This is another of the many “intuitive tools” that are available to us to help us sense beyond the usual three-dimensional ways through our five senses.
To help with the interpretation of the Gua I rely on a book by Taoist Master Alfred Huang: The Complete I Ching. I find his translation to be thorough, detailed and clear. Of course there is plenty of room for my own reading of the Gua because the words and meanings of the I Ching can be open and obscure.
For January the Gua I cast using a 50-yarrow stalk method generated this hexagram:
The “x” and circles through the 3rd, 4th and 6th lines indicate they are “changing lines.” Master Huang recommends reading only the middle changing line when there are three. So, only the 4th line is used to generate a new, changed Gua as pictured below.
But first we need to understand “Hindrance.” This Gua is made up of two trigrams, Earth is the lower one and Heaven is the upper. This is not a particularly auspicious Gua because Heaven is above and drawing away from the Earth. There is a block here against progress. It is the opposite of “Advance” which is the preceding Gua in the I Ching sequence. But this is a natural flow: after advancing there comes hindrance. And, naturally, after a time of hindrance there can be further advance.
For me the energy here is to pause, for a short time. The Hindrance-Energy is on the way out with 2013. (Note the volatility of this initial Gua with three changing line.) Yet, there is no need to leap into anything big early in the New Year.
Using only the middle line, the 4th, as the changing line yields this Gua:
The Guan here is the same word as in Guan Yin the Goddess of Compassion. The literal meaning of her name is “Watching Sound.” In this sense Guan means meditating or concentrating.
The message for me is to meditate on any actions for the month and proceed with caution. In all things be an example. Watch yourself and also remember you are being watched by others. Contemplate before action. This Gua is approached from Hindrance. While the energy barriers are lifting and Hindrance is shifting there is no need for haste. Be considerate.
A further way to interpret a Gua is to form a new one from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines as the lower trigram and the 3rd, 4th and 5th lines as the upper trigram. This yields the “mutual gua” – in this case Bo, Falling away. This too holds a sense of warning energy. Conserve what you have. This New Moon will wax to fullness and then wane again. Proceed with caution during the waning moon.
Hindrance quickly yields to Watching early in the month. Meditate on all action. As the Chinese say about Pi: pi ji tai lai, which means: “Out of the depths of misfortune comes bliss. At the end of Hindrance appears Advance.”
Enjoy this moon-cycle and the start of this fabulous New Year however you wish to interpret the energies captured by the I Ching!
PS: My friend and astrologer, Gloria Hesseloff, had this to say about this Capricorn New Moon: “2014 invites us to continue ‘planting the seeds’ for the next 26,000 years, or at least the next few generations.” Planting seeds for generations certainly requires thoughtful patience!
I Ching Gua for the New Moon in Sagittarius
There was a New Moon this past Monday, December 2 at 7:22 pm when the Moon moved into alignment with the Sun in Sagittarius. As I like to do during these important celestial events I cast an I Ching Gua, the hexagram of open (yin) and closed (yang) lines. Reading the I Ching each month is a great way to learn this ancient divination tool and offers insight into the shifting energies as we move through the calendar, the wheel of the Zodiac, the Sun’s position as we progress around it and the Moon’s position relative to Earth and Sun. All these incredible influences are at work in our lives whether we choose to believe in astrology or not!
As always the energies and the yarrow stalks I use to cast the hexagram (gua) are in alignment and reveal significant information about how I am relating to these energies. My hope is that you too can relate to the gua, the sense of their meanings and how you see the alignment of your own processes with all these influences that surround you.
Here is the initial gua I cast. Heng meaning “long lasting,” consists of Zhen (thunder, the top trigram) over Xun (wind, the bottom trigram). Notice that the bottom line is a 6, meaning it is a changing line moving from a yin line to a 9, or yang line. This is where the change occurs, remembering that I Ching means the book of change.
Long lasting here means endurance; it can refer to a marriage of long endurance, a mature marriage or relationship. However, because the initial line is a yin or weak line in a beginning place (the bottom of the gua) it may be premature to expect a long lasting situation or relationship to appear. Patience is indicated. Master Alfred Huang, whose book, The Complete I Ching, I use as my main reference, says: “Everlasting relationships take time to cultivate.”
The approached gua, the hexagram that results when the bottom 6 moves to a 9, or yang line, is Da Zhuang meaning “great strength.” This hexagram retains Zhen or thunder on top and replaces the bottom trigram with Qian or Heaven. Thunder here indicates movement and Heaven below indicates strength; together they indicate strength in motion, or “a positive advance for further achievement.” Strength here does not necessarily mean physical strength but moral strength. From Confucius’ commentary on the decision we read:
What is great should be righteous.
When righteousness is great,
The truth of Heaven and Earth can be seen.
Use great strength wisely and cautiously. Don’t overdo it; rely on moral rather than physical strength.
It is interesting to note that for the last New Moon in Scorpio I cast Da Zhuang as the initial gua which then moved to Guai or “eliminating.” (See the November 4 post). The mutual gua for the approached gua this New Moon in Sagittarius is Guai. We seem to be moving in a tight circle about Great Strength!
PS: a wonderful astrologer friend, Gloria Hesseloff, posted this about the New Moon in Sagittarius: This is the time to question our basic assumptions and be open to new revelations and possibilities. It can be so much fun to look at life with new eyes! Doesn’t this New Moon fit so perfectly with the momentous times we are experiencing during this Shift of dire beauty? I love this phrase “shift of dire beauty”! As we examine our beliefs and assumptions the I Ching seems to be telling us to eliminate old beliefs that no longer serve, enter into new beliefs cautiously and let them grow and become long lasting with patience; they will become strong through perseverance.
I Ching Gua for the New Moon in Scorpio
We have had quite a time of it! Halloween, the last day of the Celtic Year, Samhain; All Saints Day, All Souls Day, The Day of the Dead, Diwali, New Moon in Scorpio and to top it all off, a Solar Eclipse! This has been a powerful time; if you are feeling a little “winded” from all this celestial activity, you are not alone!
To help myself come back to earth from soaring with the Moon, I really enjoy sitting with my yarrow stalks to consider the incoming energies with the New Moon, to see what the month ahead might look like. If you have been reading this blog for a bit you know I do this divination as close to the New Moon as possible. (And if you are a new reader, search back on “new moon” for previous I Ching readings.) I did my work Sunday morning, just after the eclipse and New Moon at about 8:00 AM Eastern Standard time.
My yarrow stalks did not let me down; the energies they revealed are exactly in line with all the other divinations and readings I have seen about this time; from numerology to astrology and to the channeling from Rosemary’s sources, all energies seem strongly directed to Transformation!
The hexagram I cast is Da Zhuang which means Great Strength. It’s pictured here. Beginning with Great Strength is very auspicious but this does not mean that immediate action is required. In fact it is better to “stand your ground” at this time. The initial weak yang line (a 9 which is a changing line) indicates an infirm base. There is no need to move out quickly; be patient. Yet there is great strength here, a solid and imposing Gua of power. There is high energetic potential here. The power needs to be used wisely.
In Da Zhuang the upper trigram, Thunder, is yang energy on top of the lower trigram, Heaven, which is also strong yang. Remain solidly passive holding the inner strength.
Notice that there are two changing lines in the hexagram, the first (bottom) and the fifth. The bottom line is a 9, a weak yang line which can change to a yin line. The fifth line, a 6, is a weak yin line which can change to a yang line. Master Alfred Huang recommends reading the yin changing line. This means that Da Zhuang changes to the accomplished Gua, Guai which means Eliminating. It’s picture here.
The built-up potential energy of Da Zhuang can be held in check no longer. It is time to use the power, the Great Strength, to Eliminate darkness. Shine the light into the shadowy places. Yet, even as this great potential is built, there is need for caution to be sure everyone is onboard with the program. Consult the constituents. Proceed with the energy cautiously.
This action can happen later in the month. Again, there is no need to rush into this. Nevertheless, great outcome is possible. The power can overcome the dark. This is very auspicious.
There is one more Gua that can be derived from this cast. The Mutual Gua, which holds a secret or inner meaning, is created from the 6 inner lines, taking lines 2, 3, and 4 as the lower trigram and 3, 4, and 5 as the upper trigram creates Heaven over Heaven. The hexagram with all 6 yang lines is Qian which means Initiating – Transformation! The conclusion of all of this celestial energy in Scorpio, here at the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of a new cycle is – Transformation – with Great Strength to Eliminate whatever is in the way of the New.

Scorpio is ruled by our beloved and respected Pluto. Thus, the higher levels of Scorpio include nothing less than TRANSFORMATION. This is a call to restore back to sacredness that which has become taboo. This includes our Shadow. Scorpio represents our shadow. We usually think of the shadow as our lower frequency qualities. However, the shadow also holds anything we have repressed, including our talents, our authenticity and our light.
It will be quite a month!
This Issue of Balance
Yesterday I posted a message I channeled from The Divine Feminine as a response to Rosemary’s post from them the day before. And as I look back on it I realize I have been receiving a lot of information on balance lately. What’s going on?
Here’s the key quote from The Divine Feminine:
The Goddess is in you just as the God is in us. We are inseparable yet dual. We inter-penetrate one another, affirm one another, in fact, manifest one another. And there is the problem with the dual nature of existence, of consciousness, just as there is a necessity to it. Often there is an imbalance in our natures. In you men, when the masculine over-powers the feminine, there is too much action, too much aggression. When the feminine over-powers the masculine there is too much inaction, too much passivity. The mirror image of this imbalance is true for women.
While all of existence has this dual nature, it is the imbalances in that duality that are the root of difficulties. Restoring balance is critical to righting the wrong in everything, from paddling a canoe to improving one’s health; from improving one’s relationship to re-opening the Federal government of the US.
Interestingly we don’t wish for a static balance either; in this case there is no change, no dynamic to press for the evolution of consciousness. So, there is a need for some disturbance to balance to power progress. The dynamic seesaw of restoring, losing, restoring balance generates the spiral of evolution. Balance is desired; imbalance is required. But an over-imbalance can also lead to arrested development.
In my lifetime there have been a number of wars fought around the world over little and large territories and ideologies. I was nearly drafted into one such war, in Viet Nam, in which nothing at all was gained and so much lost. I believe The Divine Feminine was addressing this type of imbalance when they spoke of too much action, too much aggression. The predominance of war in the past 70 years is all about this imbalance. And I can only hope that the return of The Divine Feminine to power can begin to restore a balance and channel resources toward a more creative energy and away from this destructive energy of conflict.
We are in the Astrological Sign of Libra. This is about balance. For the New Moon in Libra I cast an I Ching Gua (or hexagram) that translates as “Little Exceeding.” (see Monday’s post). This divination for the month is about following the middle way – follow the way of balance.
How do we do this? Practice awareness. Go back to the practices that work for you, whether they are some form of meditation, a form of physical exercise (yoga, qigong, jogging) that leads you into a state of awareness, activities that bring you into the present moment, like creating ritual space. Just take a breath and do a quick “gut check” to ask yourself if you are feeling balanced in the present moment; and if not, take another breath to see what balance might feel like.
And don’t expect to remain there fully present and in balance 100% of the time! There are many sources of distraction, many events in a day that throw us off balance. These events and sources are our teachers; we learn from them and then we breathe and come back to balance.
Balance is the key. How do you restore balance in your life?

NEW MOON I CHING GUA: Little Exceeding
As I’ve been doing for some time now I cast an I Ching Gua just after the New Moon (and we had one, in Libra, this past Friday at 8:34 pm Eastern Time). These hexagrams, or gua, always seem to come up pointing in the right direction for the time. I especially find this to be true when I look back over the past month and reread the meaning of the gua cast for that month on the previous New Moon. You may want to do this for yourself, and look back on the I Ching I cast when the New Moon was in Leo last month. Then review the past month to see if any of the direction the gua indicated actually had a bearing on the way the month unfolded.
But now let’s look ahead to this remaining time for us in Libra and what the next four weeks ahead might 
have in store. Here is the hexagram I cast:
This is Xiao Guo, which means Little Exceeding according to Master Alfred Huang in his The Complete I Ching. This is composed of two trigrams, zhen, or Thunder over Gen, or Mountain. My first reaction to this picture is that the sound of thunder can be dampened or muffled in the mountains. And in keeping with the picture the meaning of this gua points to a time of reduced activity, a time of holding back and reserving energy for a more auspicious time.
I also like the image offered in the Decision of this gua written by King Wen; here is part of the decision:
The flying bird leaves a message;
Not appropriate to ascend,
Appropriate to descend,
Great good fortune!
It is said the gua resembles a flying bird with the middle yang lines as the body and the upper and lower pair of yin lines as the wings.
So the message here is “take it easy.” Don’t over-do anything at this time. This does not mean to not take any action. But when you do be cautious of over-doing it. Or, extending the image of the flying bird, don’t fly too high; there is good fortune in flying low, maybe “under the radar.”
And we are in the astrological sign of Libra, in this month of October between harvest time and winter. It is a time of balance. In the Celtic cycle we are approaching the end of the year when activities begin to wind down for the long rest during winter months. It is an auspicious time to begin to “muffle” outer activity and begin to take time for inner reflection.
This gua is also about “the middle way.” It advises to neither over-do nor under-do. I look at this as the Buddha Way, the path between the extremes of over-indulgence and excessive asceticism.
There were no changing lines when I cast this gua. It is a whole month of “little exceeding.” So, I plan to take it easy, to reflect on the middle way and assess how things stand in my life. This time between seasons as the year winds to a close may be an opportune time to shift gears and begin the inner work of the long, dark winter months ahead.
A POEM FOR FRIDAY: Red Lion
I am publishing a poem today because we are moving rapidly into the New Moon in Libra; it occurs at 8:34 pm Eastern Daylight Time this evening. And with the New Moon I will cast an I Ching Gua (hexagram) to shed some light on the coming month. I’ll publish that here on Monday in lieu of the usual “Monday’s Poem”.
I published this poem not long ago in these pages. But given the context of the posts from this week I think it bears repeating. This week has been about alchemy and how we are all agents of transformation for ourselves and for everyone we come in contact with. Transformation does not come easily. It requires our attention, our effort and certainly our awareness. And sometimes it requires a catalyst, a philosopher’s stone, a Red Lion!
So, in this context of the alchemical transformation of human consciousness I repeat:
Red Lion
Some days the beast requires a leash,
Some ways the body must seek release.
There’s no chance of change in full control,
Transformation comes through Red Lion’s role.
Remember this warning, keep to the path.
Control the creature or suffer his wrath.
Don’t bind him too tightly, there’s energy need.
Give him his head, he wants to be freed.
There’s a delicate balance of domestic and wild:
Too much domestic, the mix is too mild:
Too much wild, the mix goes astray;
Isis knew the secret of this precious way!

New Moon in Virgo I Ching Divination
Yesterday, September 5, 2013 at 7:38 AM Eastern time, the moon aligned with the sun in the astrological sign of Virgo. Of course this alignment is what happens when we have a new moon every 29 days or so. And whether or not you “believe” in astrology, there is no denying that the moon in its tracks and phases across our night skies has a profound influence on the planet and us. I pay close attention to the movement of the moon; I enjoy correlating its movements with its influences.
If you have been following this blog for a while you know that on each New Moon I cast an I Ching Gua, a 6-line hexagram of either solid (yang) or broken (yin) lines. There are 64 possible arrangements of these 6 lines into Gua. And there are many books and guides to assist in the interpretation of the intelligence contained in these 6-line arrangements. I use The Complete I Ching, The Definitive Translation by Taoist Master Alfred Huang.
For this New Moon in Virgo I cast this Gua:
Its name is Ding, which Master Huang interprets as “Establishing the New.” This hexagram follows a Gua that means “Abolishing the Old.” Essentially the meaning here is a new and stable situation must be established after over-turning the old status quo. For example in the event of a political revolution, as happened in China when the I Ching was codified, a new government had to be established to stabilize and manage the country.
So, what does this mean today, for us, and how does it inform the energies and influences we can expect in the coming weeks?
Both Rosemary and I have mentioned in our blogs that we are in the process of reviewing and restructuring our businesses. This is very much in line with our recent move and our need to reestablish all our possessions into their new home. In many ways we are “establishing the new” as Ding suggests. And this is certainly what a New Moon calls for. With the turning of the moon it is good to let go of things (objects, parts of businesses, relationships, habits, practices) that no longer serve us. The waning moon time is a great time for “house cleaning.” Then with the arrival of the New Moon it is good to bring in the new and fresh, whether these are ideas, processes, practices and even new things for the household.
I consider the casting of Ding for this month as very auspicious. It confirms exactly what we are in the middle of doing. It offers us the supporting energy to move through this process of assessment and then “establishing the new.” And the mutual Gua is exactly in line with what we are doing. The mutual Gua is formed by using the middle lines to form a new Gua, so the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines become the lower trigram and the 3rd, 4th and 5th lines become the upper trigram. This yields the new Gua, Guai, or “Eliminating.” According to Master Huang the mutual Gua contains a hidden meaning for deeper interpretation of the original Gua. And “Eliminating” is certainly in line with this directive to “establishing the new.” We are eliminating everything that no longer serves us, both for our household and our businesses. Those items and processes that no longer serve are not needed, in fact would only weaken, “establishing the new.”
For the initial Gua all the lines were strong, which means none of them were changing lines. This can be inauspicious because it points to a period of stagnation; there is no forward progress. But I am looking at this as a time for stabilization. I am glad there are no changing lines in this cast; after all the changes of the past month I am looking forward to this period of stability!
With this New Moon in Virgo and this particular I Ching divination, are there parts of your life that need to be examined, things to eliminate that no longer serve you, processes or practices that need to be reestablished? This is a good time for this review. The Moon’s energies and the energies of this time will support you through “establishing the new”!
New Moon in Leo I Ching Divination
The New Moon in Leo occurred on Tuesday, August 6 at 5:51 pm EDT this year. We had completed the heavy lifting of our move to Severna Park the day before. We were united with all of our stuff for the first time in over two years. Of course we didn’t know where everything was yet (still don’t) as the job of sorting and searching, finding places for things and finalizing what we need and what we can store or purge in another round of down-sizing proceeds. As we look at the stacks and array of boxes to be opened and managed the task seems daunting.
With this background it is no surprise that I cast a highly appropriate initial Gua for the month ahead! At least I was able to find my yarrow stalks and my current favorite “bible” on the I Ching, Alfred Huang’s The Complete I Ching.
Here is the hexagram I cast as the starting point:
Notice it is made up of two identical trigrams; the name in Chinese is Dui or Lake in English. Master Huang says this word means something more like a swamp or marsh, similar to rice paddies. When put together the hexagram is also named Dui. The meaning of the hexagram is Joyful.
Notice that the initial, lowest line has a circle in the middle of it; this was cast as a nine and means it is the changing line for this Gua; it changes from a yang, closed line to a yin, open line yielding a new Gua with a very different meaning. So, as the month opens I have a joyful period to experience. I equate this to the joy of being reunited with all my stuff, of setting up a new household where everything is where I want it to be, even those items that need to be stored or purged. Rosemary and I are both in a state of great joy that we now have a new home to both live in and work from.
The specific meaning of the changing line gives another layer of meaning; the yao text refers to “inner harmony” as the basis for joy. This is excellent advice. Yes, while all the surroundings are lining up to bring joy, the primary source of joy is always inside. As long as I remain harmonious inside, all the boxes and frustration of sorting and deciding can remain incidental to the overall state of being joyful.
How are you being joyful this August? Seek inner harmony and all external circumstances can drop away.
Now for the approached gua, the one formed when the initial yao changes from yang to yin:
This is Kun or Exhausting. No surprise here! After the strenuous move and all the sorting, deciding, arranging and purging I do expect to experience a level of exhaustion. This gua also refers to other resources, like money. It will be easy to over-spend as we are joyful about settling in and enjoying our new spaces.
Symbolically, the lower trigram moved from Lake to Kan or Water. With Water under Lake the lake drains away, resources diminish.
According to Master Huang, the Sage rides out these periods of low energy and drained resources, realizing this time too shall pass. The advice here is conserve what little energy remains. Go inside to consider next moves. Wait out the period of exhaustion; there will be plenty of opportunity ahead.
How do you deal with exhausting states? The advice of this gua is to conserve and wait.
As another note the mutual gua for Kun is Jia Ren or Household! The mutual gua holds additional meaning for the reading. I am again not surprised that Household comes up; for me at this time my household is both the source of joy and exhaustion!

Cancer New Moon I Ching Divination
The New Moon in Cancer was Monday morning, 3:15 am Eastern Daylight Time on July 8, 2013. And as I like to do, I cast a Gua, an I Ching hexagram (6-line figure) to determine what the energies will be like during this next moon cycle, for the next 29 or so days. (The next Full Moon is on July 22nd, at 2:16 pm; and the Leo New Moon is on August 6th, at 5:52 pm).
For this divination I use the yarrow stalk method and I use Toaist Master Alfred Huang’s The Complete I Ching to help me with the interpretation of the Gua.
The divination on Monday yielded a complicated picture: the numbers I cast, from initial (bottom) to top were 6, 9, 8, 8, 8, 9. The hexagram this generates is pictured here:
The initial 6, and the two nines at positions two and six are all changing lines. This indicates a lot of change coming during the month – great potential for transformation. Master Huang’s advice when given three changing lines is to read the middle line only to simply the interpretation. The initial gua then is Meng which Master Huang translates as “Childhood.” The interpretation of this initial hexagram indicates the month begins with the innocence of childhood. Wisdom is covered or hidden and needs to mature. There is good energy in youth; strong energy to gain and grow in insight and ultimately wisdom. The image of the gua is of water flowing out of a mountain, or a fresh spring. There is vitality in this initial hexagram.
Then the second 9 (middle changing line), a weak yang line become a yin line. This generates a new, accomplished gua composed of five yin lines and a yang line at position six. The accomplished gua is pictured here as Bo, “Falling Away”:
The image of this hexagram is Mountain over Earth and represents a top-heavy, unstable and unsustainable situation. Energies may be fluctuating later in the month.
The key here then is to shore up the erosion and regain some stability. Support will be required; be prepared to ask for help.
Another key is to trust in the transforming energies. We’ve known for some time now that 2013 is a year for great transformation. And the only way forward toward transformation is through the gateway of change, of instability. Awareness and preparation of our energies here is vital to moving through the transformation process as smoothly as possible.
The bottom line for me is to be prepared for the coming changes and also, going back to the “innocence of youth”, trust in the outcome.

I Ching Gua for the New Moon in Gemini
It is my Mom’s birthday today; June 10, 1924. She would have been 89 had she lived beyond 83 years. She was a Gemini. My natal moon is in Gemini, always a sweet relationship having a moon in mother’s sun sign.
We had a New Moon in Gemini on June 8 at 11:58 am Eastern time. And with the New Moon I like to cast an I Ching Gua to get a sense of the energies for the upcoming moonth, the next 29 days or so. The initial Gua this moonth is Lü which means fulfillment according to Alfred Huang in his The Complete I Ching. This Gua is related to shoes and walking. For me it means “stepping out” into one’s duty, calling, purpose. And in a large way I have begun to step out. I’m off to a really good start with my two Qigong classes which I kicked off in the past week. I don’t have large groups yet, but they are already growing and the paying participants are more than covering my costs. I’m happy with these results. I also related in posts last week that I am no longer hiding my talents and my accumulated skills and wisdom. Now is a good time to move firmly into action, fulfillment and purpose.

Note that the fifth line of the initial Gua is a changing line: the nine, yang line, changes to a yin line. This creates the approached Gua: Kui, which 
means Diversity according to Master Huang. This change impacts the energies and brings a cautionary note with it: the fifth position in the Gua is a yang position, which is proper, strong; its change to a yin line may bring adversity: being steadfast and holding to purpose rigidly can lead to adversity.
That said, in diversity there can be great harmony with the proper attitude. Find common ground on the big things and all the little differences will blend and disappear. In diversity there can be great strength.
How do you handle diversity in your life? Do you resist change? Do you back down from confrontation?
So as the moonth unfolds watch for the shifts from “fulfillment” to “diversity.” This may mean a strong purposeful beginning to the moonth with a gradual shift as the energies change to scatter that directed energy and bring about diversity. And as this happens watch for the opportunities for harmony, the strengths in diversity rather than the oppositions. Hold to an attitude of cooperation and resist the temptation for stubborn resistance. There will always be differences as long as there are two or more humans involved in any issue. Blend the small differences because they are inconsequential; harmonize the major differences and gain strength from the symphony of ideas!
