Are You Expecting? –Richard’s Commentary

March 15, 2013 Leave a comment

The possibilities are endless! And this is exactly what I was hoping for. So, yes, I’m expecting some wonderful possibility to emerge this Spring! What about you?

This past Saturday I passed my Level 1 Qigong evaluation and am now certified to teach Jeff Primack’s base level of his Qi Revolution. Jeff’s goal is to expand the number of teachers of Qigong in the US; he is a true believer in this ancient form of exercise. And it has been pretty clearly documented as a superior approach to health and longevity. Here’s just one citation:

“In the early 1980′s, scientists in China began to study the medical benefits claimed for qigong. Since then, research on hundreds of medical applications of qigong have been reported in the Chinese literature. Of special interest … are clinical reports of the medical benefits of qigong that claim to retard or reverse some diseases associated with aging.”

–Kenneth Sancier Ph. D.

And here is an excellent definition of Qigong by Dr. Kathleen Hall:

“Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that creates health by balancing the chi, or vital energy, in your body. Qigong is about discovering one’s true balance.

“Kaiser Permanente, the largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in the country, offers Qigong to their patients. They report they began Qigong with their chronic pain patients and had such great results they are now providing these classes for all health care plan members.”

With teachers and practitioners like Jeff Primack beginning to spread the word I think we will soon be seeing Qigong everywhere.

I’ve been practicing two forms of Qigong for about a year now. And I can honestly say I feel great, I have lost weight, I am sleeping well, and I feel much less stressful about life than I did a year ago.

And now the challenge begins. I am motivated to get started and only need to set up a class, gather some interested students and get going, right? Well, maybe it’s not that simple; but I do have a plan and “I am expecting” to step out in confidence and begin to bring this ancient longevity technology to as many people as I can reach.

This is part of my Spring break-out. Do you have a plan? It’s a great time of the year to review, revise and refresh your activities and assess your direction. Do an internal check on your health; figure complete-2Rosemary and I suggest doing a scan of all of your bodies, the physical, of course, and your emotional, mental and spiritual bodies as well. Remember this diagram we published a few months ago?

Do you feel blockage anywhere? In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) “When your chi is blocked or stagnant you get sluggish, slow and can experience illness.”  (Dr. Hall) And since Qi is vital energy it can block more than just the physical body. Qigong can release these blocks to relieve the sluggish “hang-over” from winter and provide just the spring-tonic needed to revitalize and nourish.

I have found that Qigong supports all four levels of the body. The movement and breath work are physically beneficial, the meditative aspects of Qigong support both the emotional and mental bodies, and throughout the practice there is a flow and connection to the divine that is deeply spiritual and truly inspiring.

This spring, try something new. Look for Qigong in your area. Give it a go; I think you’ll appreciate it!

And all the best with that!

ROSEMARY’S EXPLORATION: Are You Expecting?

March 14, 2013 Leave a comment

Are you ‘pregnant with possibilities’?

The Universe is filled with the potential of answering every dream you can dream for yourself.  But what are you expecting?

The energies of attraction are not focused like a laser when they are generated from the emotion of fear.  You can’t be worried and manifesting your dreams at the same time, for the laser that you send out like a beacon, attracting like energy into your field, is a laser tuned to that upon which you focus your worry energy, not the energy of your dream.

You do have the power to attract a nightmare but why would you?

When people start studying prosperity and the law of attraction they often do exercises to change their expectations.  Recently our daughter started expecting the Universe to give her money.  She found a dollar on a store parking lot and sat waiting for the person who had dropped it to return but no one did.  She found several dollars in the dryer when she did the laundry.  Magic?  No.  She EXPECTED the Universe to find a way to be generous with her and then she ALLOWED the Universe to choose how to do that.

I often teach that prosperity can come into your field in surprising ways when you are open to it.  One way that the Universe gives me money is to have a sale on something that I have to buy.  I was going to buy it anyway but I can save money that I would have spent.  This just happened for the Color Class that I am teaching.  We had selected the binder we wanted to give participants and had found one that came in lots of colors [this IS for a Color Class!].  We developed the prototype workbook with one binder then went back to purchase a larger quantity when we had the final numbers for the class.  The binders were on sale and they had all the colors in stock!

This doesn’t represent a lot of money saved but it was going to have to be spent anyway.  We expect the Universe to give to us in surprising ways.

What do you expect from your business?  Your boss?  Your significant other?  Your children?  Are you expecting challenges, threats, anger, disrespect?  And are you getting that?

How adaptable are you to change?  Are you willing to ‘go with the flow’?

Sometimes we get so stuck in our expectations that we forget to adapt to changing circumstances or energies.  Have you ever thought about changing your expectations?  Are you willing to change?

I knew someone who had a business and lost her business partner so was faced with only being able to pay half the rent.  It was time to renegotiate the lease and she thought she might have to move.  Instead, she focused on staying in the same space and paying half the rent.  She focused and prayed and concentrated and expected this.  She came out of the meeting with the landlord with a lease at half the rent for the next year!  It CAN happen!

Are you, at this point, telling yourself that this only happens for other people, that it doesn’t work that way for you?  As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.”

Trying being ‘pregnant with possibilities.’  Think that you CAN manifest your dreams. EXPECT the Universe to support you in that manifestation.  Then go with the flow and allow the Universe to figure out the ‘how’ of making things happen.

Let this week be your ‘due date’ – expect great things!

New Moon in Pisces; New I Ching Gua

March 12, 2013 Leave a comment

The Moon emerged from conjunction with the Sun at 3:51 pm EDT on Monday. I like to do an I Ching reading on the New Moon to see what energies might have influence over the coming month (or Moonth as it was once known). The Gua I cast using the traditional yarrow stalk method contained three changing lines! Maybe this is appropriate since we are approaching spring here in the Northern Hemisphere and with the Sun moving toward Aries there is always new beginnings, growth, change. Here is the first Gua:

Jie-Relief

This is Jie/Relief.

The second, third and forth lines were all moving; to avoid confusion I selected the middle line to read as the changing line. It was a yin, six which then changes to a yang line to create the approached Gua:Heng-Long Lasting

This is Heng/Long Lasting.

So, what does any of this mean? First, from the last New Moon my Yi moved from “Hindrance” to “Watching” – see my February 11 post. In mid-February I did feel stuck; we were in the mid-winter doldrums so this made some sense to me. Then I could “watch” for opportunities to come along to make changes, to break free of the stuck-ness!

Along came Qi Revolution with Jeff Primack on February 16 and I went; I definitely felt the change, the break out!

Now for this month I get some “relief.” But with that changing line at the third position I need to be attentive to the work; there is no time to let down now. This is directly related to my Qigong practice. As the I Ching says, I need to remain “steadfast and upright” in this practice for it to be effective; otherwise I could lose it.

Then “long lasting” comes into play. This is a propitious Gua. Sincerity, purity and unselfishness are demanded (more about my practice).

The form of this Gua is Thunder (the top trigram) over Wind (the lower trigram). This is a very natural occurrence, and therefore is auspicious. It can represent marriage or partnership with “firm” over “gentle.” And it is favorable to have somewhere to go.

Some warnings also go with this Gua: “never over-react and hold to the central path”; good advice for any partnership! This is an excellent Gua with great news as we approach the Spring Equinox. It is time to move forward with plans; the elements and Heaven and Earth are in alignment. It’s time to move ahead with all possible good intention and energy.

Here’s what Confucius wrote as the main theme of this Gua:

Sun and moon rely on the Tao of Heaven;
Thus can their shining be long lasting.
The four seasons change and transform;
Thus can their production of beings long endure.
The holy sage remains long lasting in his way of life;
Then all things under Heaven are transformed to completion.
Contemplate the Tao of Long Lasting,
To see the nature of Heaven and Earth and of all beings.

[from The Complete I Ching by Taoist Master Alfred Huang]

This divining of the energies for the next four weeks fits very well with my plans and intentions. I hope you can find some relevance in this reading for you and where you are headed!

MONDAY’S POEM: Qigong Level 1 Instruction

March 11, 2013 Leave a comment

This past weekend I went through a certification process for teaching Qigong at Level 1 in Jeff Primack’s Qi Revolution Movement. And I passed the test! Wow, hurray, I am a Certified Level 1 Qigong Instructor! In celebration of this accomplishment (there are only a couple thousand of us in the whole country!) I wrote this:

Qigong Level 1 Instruction

Breathe in,
Expand.
Breathe out,
Contract.

Inhale,
Larger.
Exhale,
Smaller.

Breath first,
Then act.
Feel
The Qi.

Breathe in,
Raise arms.
Breathe out,
Relax.

Inhale,
Round arms.
Exhale,
Hug tree.

Breathe first,
Then move.
Actions
Are slow.

Inhale,
Rise up.
Exhale,
Lower.

Building
The Qi
Higher,
Stronger.

Live long,
Prosper,
Feel
The Peace.

Are You the Rose or the Thorn? – Richard’s Commentary

March 7, 2013 Leave a comment

I write this on a nasty, stormy day here in the East – blame storm “Saturn” for it. In Annapolis we were fortunate enough to get nothing but rain and a little wind, nothing too damaging. Oh, there was an overturned semi-tractor-trailer on the Bay Bridge which shut down both spans in both directions. This is a major headache for traffic in this area and it ties up roadways for miles and hours. I’m sure a few thorns came out for people today!

I felt a bit prickly myself. It is a very busy week for me working to get class material finalized and assembled for Rosemary, helping to set up presentations and making sure I am ready to video record the whole class, working on my own practices including preparation for Qigong Instructor Certification this Saturday, and keeping up with the normal routine.

And with the storm shutting down schools and work for the anticipated snow the house was full of people today with many pulls on attention and energy. The energy, in fact, swirled at times beyond the normal boundaries and out of control. My Qi was disturbed.

I am working hard to keep my calm, to smooth out my Qi, to remain in flow and let go of all the little things that can too often ruffle my feathers. And yet my thorns came out! In some sense these thorns were for protection, not necessarily of my beautiful inner rose, but of my time, my priorities, my space, my practice, my, my, my…

But is this why the rose has thorns, to hide her flower. I don’t think so. The rose displays her beauty for all to see. Her light shines on everyone. She opens her softness to reveal that light and inner beauty. All she asks in return is a small amount of space. Her thorns protect that space. Yes, they are sharp but they only stick in a little bit, only as a warning not to come any closer.

Too often my thorns stab too deep. I only need a little space and too often create cold distance. I need time to breathe but don’t want to breathe alone. I struggle with balance here between protection and open sharing of my light.

The advice I hear is to “be the Rose that you are and shed the thorns.” I am working on this, working on the openness. Is it always safe to do this?

Wednesday evening Rosemary and I were part of a Spiritual Exploration Group. It is a group that comes together by invitation to share deeply. It is a safe place; and many of us share very deeply about personal experiences. Everything shared stays in the room. It is easy to shed my thorns in this group. I have no fear of my space there. Can I take this feeling of safety into the outer world and share my light? Can I shed all my defenses and open my lamp-shade to let out the light?

It is time. We have moved beyond 2012 and well into the 21st Century. It is time for all of us to come into our true selves, to shine our light and to be open to the flow of the Universe. It begins inside, where the light originates. We first let go of the thorns that prick us from the inside; some call them our “demons.” Egos have thorns that keep us in line! These are good for survival, just as the rose uses her thorns to protect her space for survival. But maybe we need to move beyond basic survival needs and into the light.

We cannot transform the world with thorns. We can work toward a better world through open acceptance of our light and to shine that light through fulfilling our purpose, what Rosemary calls our “soul commitment.”

Maybe that commitment needs to be stronger than our need for protection!

ROSEMARY’S EXPLORATION: Are You the Rose or the Thorn?

March 6, 2013 Leave a comment

Today’s Exploration is a Mystic Message from The Divine Feminine.  Enjoy!

“Dear Ones,

Roses are among the most beautiful flowers on Planet Earth and, yet, roses have thorns on them.  The thorns on the rose stem are not there as punishment but as protection for the beauty and fragrance of the flower.

You are like the rose flower – beautiful to see and enticing with attracting essence of you like the fragrance of attar of roses.  The thorns on your stem are the protective barriers that you have erected to prevent anyone from getting too close to your essence.  The outward beauty attracts but the inner is hidden and protected.

This very human way of being in the world has led many to forget about their own inner beauty.  They have become so used to the thorns that they hold themselves aloof and separate from the essence of others and even from their own.

THIS is the main problem on Earth in the 21st Century – a forgetting, an amnesia of the essence of humanity.

Many see only the prickly thorns of others and focus on the façade that others have erected as protection.  Most have even fooled themselves by their own protective stances into believing that they are what they project to the world.

Nothing could be further from the Truth.

You, Dear One, are as beautiful as the most beautiful rose.  Your essence is as attractive as attar of roses, which has a very high vibratory frequency.  No one can take away or diminish your essence, your inner vibration.  However, YOU can choose to lower your vibration, to appear to the world as someone you are not.

For you, Dear One, are the Light of the World.  You hold a high vibration of Light Essence in you that only you can choose to show to the world.

Are you willing to expose yourself to the world as you truly are at your core?  Or will you choose to continue to hide behind the façade that you have created to fit the model of the world that you want to believe is real?

The light within you is REAL.  The world around you is the collective agreement of all of the facades that people have erected to project an image of an imagined reality.

Break FREE of this projection!

Be the REAL YOU in the world!

Allow others to choose whether or not they will stay behind their façade, but choose to reveal the Inner Light of YOU.

Be the Rose that you are and shed the thorns.  The time is NOW.

And So It Is.”

Rosemary adds:

Remember that you are the Light of the World.  It’s time for each of us to step up to our Soul Commitment and be the person we were born to be.  We all survived the big Shift of 2012 and we can no longer hide our light from each other.  Have you done the work to connect with the Inner You?  Are you confident that you are manifesting your Inner Light to the world?

What are you waiting for?  We’re all waiting for YOU to SHINE!!!

And we love you for letting us share in your Light.  As each of us shines we invite all others to do the same.  Think how great a world we can create when we are all shining as brightly as we can.  Wow!!!

It’s a Sign!!! – Richard’s Commentary

February 28, 2013 Leave a comment

Inside-outside; optimism-pessimism; half-full-half-empty. There’s a spiral of thoughts here in Rosemary’s Exploration to digest. And somehow the article this week points directly at me!

I’ve been an optimist all my life. And I live a reasonably healthy internal life and do look for confirming signs all around me. And then I went to the doctor last week.

It’s funny Rosemary should use the example: “You might have been given a medical diagnosis that you don’t like.” My doctor visit, the first in several years, was just routine; I thought I should get a new base-line of all the numbers western medicine is so fond of analyzing. I feel in excellent health, eating well on a pretty strict regimen of raw nut, seed, fruit and vegetable smoothies for breakfast and lunch, exercising with yoga and qigong, meditating, working for myself and a pretty gentle boss (Rosemary); all good things right? So, the nurse took my blood pressure and seemed pretty alarmed; “all the celery in your smoothies doesn’t seem to be working” she remarked.

OK, I’ve had an issue with high blood pressure before; it’s a genetic condition. I have taken medication in the past but then controlled it reasonably well with Chinese herbs, acupuncture, etc. I thought I was good to go for life! Not so! The external sign here is a warning that things need to change even more.

And I am resisting this change; my resistance is not improving my blood pressure a bit! I am ignoring the external signs, but struggling to change the internal perspective in order to see the external signs change. While I remain an optimist my glass seems to be closer to empty than full! Am I fooling myself?

Since my experience at Qi Revolution with Jeff Primack I have been practicing his Level 1 Qigong Form every day. I am getting prepared for Level 1 training this Saturday. And I am planning to go for certification to teach Level 1 a week later on March 9th. I am optimistic that I can achieve this goal. I am changing my diet to include many of Jeff’s recommendations in his Conquering Any Disease book, following many of his suggestions for reducing high blood pressure (yep, more celery!) and curing heart disease. More internal changes.

Now, I realize this is a life-change and not an over-night change that I’m working on here. It’s only been a week since that doctor visit. But the optimist in me is looking for the external signs to support my internal changes. And my blood pressure remains high; that half-full glass is looking even more empty!

And the spiral continues, but in a downward spin. What is this about? All signs, whether they are inward or outward, point to lessons. There’s something karmic here; something much deeper than qigong practice and meditation. And I need to dig down where that spiral is drilling to wedge out this darkness that is shadowing my optimism. And no matter how deeply we dig for the lead or the gold, there is always another layer to dredge up, examine and alchemically transform. The signs point the way; they are critical signs to follow.

I am reading those signs carefully; I am taking my blood pressure multiple times a day. I am asking many questions and looking deeply in the dark mirror, working to clear it of dust. I am watching but not expecting new external signs any time soon. And that’s OK; I have time.

And I’m taking a newly prescribed drug (two, actually, in one pill). Yes, I have at least temporarily resorted to western medicine’s approach to my condition. I am hopeful this will improve my pressure and give me more time for the natural approach to kick in.

Yes, I read the sign, and while I didn’t like the direction it pointed, I realize there are many more lessons for this western man to learn, many more internal adjustments to make and many more years to practice!

MONDAY’S POEM: Qi

February 25, 2013 Leave a comment

I am still in that flow from Qi Revolution! Read this poem slowly; breathe with it; feel the qi!

Qi

Breathe in,
Expand.
Breath out,
Let go.

Slow moves
Outward.
Slow down
Inward.

Flame builds,
Brightness.
Flame dies,
Darkness.

Moon fills,
Grows large.
Moon wanes,
Release.

Wind moves,
Blows strong.
Wind drops,
Relax.

Creek flows,
Running.
Creek slows,
Pooling.

Tree boughs
Nodding.
Tree stands,
Stilling.

Feel qi,
Fill space.
Feel qi,
Empty.

Qi Revolution

February 22, 2013 Leave a comment

qigongThis is what I experienced this past week; four days emersion in an energy bubble, a total “qi-field” created by Jeff Primack and 300 of my fellow qigong practitioners! And I have to tell you it was transformative! 32 hours of qi is something everyone has to experience. I believe this is why Jeff is calling this event a revolution; it truly does revolutionize one’s thinking about life, health, food, energy, the “field of all possibilities”, Source, Light, Love…the list goes on and on.

As some of you know I’ve been practicing qigong for about a year now. I have been working primarily with a brilliant acupuncturist and qigong instructor who trained with Jeff Primack and other masters. I have learned a “Five-Element” form that is truly life changing because it addresses all of the vital organs associated with the five elements in the Chinese system of health; these are wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The five elements form a complete philosophy of life, health, mental and emotional well-being and longevity. And now I am adding at least the first level of Jeff’s form to take my practice into another dimension of the qi-field.

What is qi? I think of it as “life force.” It’s vitality, the feeling of energy, like an electric current that flows through everything. It seems to make the air around us and that we breathe into us alive with power. There are different names for this energetic field in many languages; this is Prana in Sanskrit, Mana in Hawaiian spirituality as examples. And through specialized practices we can begin to sense this vital force that animates the entire Universe. In this sense it is the creative force that manifests the All.

Qigong is a masterful way to get in tune with this force. It is a way to sense it externally to our bodies and a way to build it up and focus it within our bodies.  Qigong is a combination of movement and coordinated breath work. Movement is subtle, slow, meditative and focused. It is an excellent way to cultivate “no-mind” – to quiet the chattering “monkey-mind.” Breathing is regulated, deepened, another focus for the quiet mind; it oxygenates the entire body with a renewed sense of aliveness. Coordinating the movements with the focused breathing leaves no room for other thoughts; worries are left behind, endless loops of future plans and past review are pushed away; there is only room for now, the moment of the next move and the next breath!

Beyond Level 1 practice there are two additional levels, two other forms to work toward. Then there is Jeff’s approach to healthy food: “The Ultimate High-Phytochemical Food Healing System.” We also practiced a Strength Building form of Qigong, a tough routine for me to get through; I’ll have to build up to this practice!

And to give us breaks Jeff interspersed practice with several informative and always entertaining keynote talks on all the fascinating subjects I love to explore, from “near death experience” to life elsewhere in the Universe to the destiny of the human race!

Watching Jeff in action is a study in itself. He is virtually bursting with qi. He practices everything he teaches. Even when he has a senior student lead a Level 1 practice he is right there on stage going through the practice with us. This is one teacher who clearly practices what he preaches!

Jeff Primack takes the Qi Revolution on the road each year. His first stop this past weekend was Baltimore. If you are in this area and missed him, try to catch his event next year; you won’t be disappointed. And check out his website: qigong.com for a future event near you. I’ll be seeing him again soon in Baltimore for Level 1 Qigong Training. I can hardly wait to be back in that powerful field of qi!

Here’s to your Qi-Health!

The Merkaba in My Life

February 15, 2013 Leave a comment

OK, so here I am being bold, even audacious! What in the world is a Merkaba?  I first encountered the Merkaba as a focal object for meditation at Rosemary’s seminary 20 years ago. At that time I could visualize it but it didn’t call to me. I was recently reminded of the Merkaba when I read Drunvalo Melchizedek’s latest book: The Mayan Ouroboros. The Merkaba is mentioned briefly, almost in passing, but it struck a chord with me me this time. So, I looked more deeply into this geometric form that some say holds the shape of the Human Lightbody. I’ve pictured it here but it is difficult to capture the dynamics of the crystalline model.merkaba

In essence the Merkaba is a pair of interlocked and spinning tetrahedrons. That part of this picture is more or less how I visualize this object within me. As I “see” it the lower tetrahedron spins counter-clockwise and the upper clockwise. There is incredible speed involved; some say they spin at the speed of light. There is tremendous energy with beams shooting below and above the pyramids.

With practice I can now visualize this Merkaba (my Merkaba) at will. It offers me a quick way to balance, to catch myself and reframe a moment or a situation. It is a grounding force as well as an uplifting one. I can especially tap into this spinning form when I am practicing qigong. It seems to fit particularly well with the movement for the wood element, the so-called “standing at stake” position or what I prefer to think of as hugging a tree. Recently, as I was finishing my 6th repetition of the 5-Element Form when I face in the direction of the Sun or Heaven, I was visualizing holding a Buddhic Column rather than a tree. It was a powerful meditation; here’s the description I wrote in my journal:

While I was holding the Buddhic Column, the Merkaba became prominent in my meditation. I seemed to merge with the Buddhic Column; I was no longer holding it but standing within it. It seemed to have expanded to engulf me. I felt light, lifted and I could both feel and see the light all around me. As the Merkaba spun I seemed to drill myself – my energy core – right down into the Earth. I felt her pain. I sent healing energy through my core. It was like I was an energy rod bringing light from above down into the heart of Mother Earth. The continuing trend was this downward spiral. There was a gravitational pull on me that felt more like a loving embrace than anything of a grabbing or greedy nature.

Toward the end of my meditation I was also lifted upward. The Sun’s gravity lifted me; I felt taller and my arms, still holding on to a part of the column, were lifted. This felt like a freeing force and my arms flew upward in a gesture of surrender and release.

And I popped out of my meditation. The Merkaba spun on, a constant light energy that animates. But my conscious awareness of it slipped to the background, merging with my unconscious, but only just beneath the surface. I have a sense I can call up to consciousness this energy pattern anytime I need to emphasize my lightbody in the physical plane. There is a magic power here that I need to protect and also practice for the good of all.

Well, there you have it. Audacious, right?

How are you being audacious in your transformation? This is the year, this is the time! We are all Lightbodies, called to be Light-Workers!
