Storm Surge in Your Life! – Richard’s Commentary and Glenn Smith’s Obituary

June 20, 2013 Leave a comment

I had one of those days when it may have been better to remain in bed under the covers! Yes, it was another storm surge kind of day! It built up early after a late night wrestling with video production, technical issues, computer sluggishness, internet connectivity glitches. The storm actually started early yesterday. I hope it surged to its climax today as I lost a DVD player (don’t ask!) and made two trips out to get the produce from our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm (their delivery truck broke down, so they were having a stormy day too!).

But I do have a perspective on all of this I need to share:

On May 9, 2013, a friend and colleague, Glenn M. Smith, died suddenly and shockingly, in Huntsville, Canada. He had been ill for some months with strange symptoms attributed to ALS and then Lyme disease. I learned of this diagnosis and thought, OK, treatment is available. Then I received word he had passed. This was truly a sudden and violent storm!

Glenn and I met at a Baeth Davis Scientific Hand Analysis event and then stayed in contact and met again at another BaethLife Purpose event. Baeth saw potential in both of us as caring, sensitive, yet strong men and suggested we figure a way to work together. We started a blog, PowerfulSensitiveMen.com and posted a few things along the way. But we both were busy with other things and then Glenn fell ill.

I have been asking myself, and him, what we should do with the blog. And I got a pretty clear answer today to write this post, post it on the blog and then see what happens. First I want to post part of Glenn’s obituary that appeared in the Toronto Star on May 24:

Glenn Smith passed away peacefully in Huntsville on May 9, 2013 of ALS and Lyme Disease. Glenn was born on April 27, 1958 in Richmond, BC, to parents Wesley and Lorraine. He is survived by his beloved partner of 7 years, Sharon Miller…Glenn was a tradesman, a massage therapist, an author (Lotus Petal) and spiritual guide. Glenn loved to play and have fun. He acted, learned the trumpet and joined a dance class in his forties. He loved to test his body through athletics – as a football and baseball player, as a runner and as a triathlete. He loved the outdoors – boating, swimming and skiing. He was an incredible cook. He was a meditator for over 30 years and a spiritual man. He loved quietly and gently being of service to others. Mostly Glenn loved Sharon. He and Sharon shared a deep love and connection that inspired others.

Glenn was a “powerful, sensitive man.” He is truly missed. I regret not having the opportunity to pursue our work together in the physical but I have a sense we will be working together in another format; because for me the work needs to continue. I know that he agrees. And whether or not our joint blog continues is only a matter of form.

I have more to say about this and Glenn, but for today I want this post to reflect his gentle nature and sweet presence I feel as I write. I will write more about storm surges and their impacts tomorrow.

My little rain-storm today was nothing compared to what Glenn and Sharon have been through. Perspective is always so sobering and so calming to that inner storm!

Fires, Thoughts, Transformations and Global Changes

June 14, 2013 Leave a comment

There is another wild fire raging in Colorado. There are actually multiple fires but the one most on my mind is near Colorado Springs in a neighboring district called Black Forest. We have dear friends who live there. And already more homes, a new unwanted record number of homes, have been destroyed by this out-of-control fire.

It was just a year ago that another wild fire, the Waldo Canyon Wild Fire, raged through our neighborhood in Colorado Springs. It left nearly 350 homes either completely burned to the ground or in shambles. Ours was one of the lucky ones, spared in an island of preservation while all around was blackened and burned. I am certain there will be new stories of miracles when the smoke clears from this current fire, still out of control as I write.

Rosemary and I have both been eerily drawn into watching the fires, listening to the reports, tuning in to the regular press conferences and live-streaming KKTV from the safety of our home in Maryland, just as we did a year ago as our neighborhood burned. Our memories of last year are vividly revived and the feelings of helplessness are taking root once again in our psyches. And to top that off, a wild storm hit Annapolis today, knocking out our power just as it did a year ago as we watched Colorado burn.

What’s going on here? What is this mysterious link between our consciousness and the patterns of heat and fire and rough weather across this country? Are the patterns programming our consciousness?

I wrote yesterday in response to the message from The Divine Feminine that our thoughts can create our reality. But what happens when our reality creates our thoughts? I believe it is our moral obligation to counter the negatives with our own positive responses. This is our calling; this is our karma!

Call it what you will: prayer, good thoughts, positive vibrations. They do have an impact. And so, with deep gratitude and with powerful hope and expectations I send out my prayers and hopes and good vibrations to Colorado Springs and Black Forest, to these communities re-traumatized by this wild fire. I send strength and endurance to all who are countering this new onslaught: the fire-fighters, law-enforcement personnel, first responders, aid providers, and especially the displaced victims, many of whom already know their homes are gone.

I know that our former community of Mountain Shadows has pulled together and our neighbors are rebuilding. They endured. And I know they will be there to aid their neighbors to the north in Black Forest. This is where the patterns of consciousness are changing and making a difference. These are communities now who are united in a common cause as they may never have been before. It is this united consciousness that can and will change the patterns of global transformation toward the good and positive.

To all who are in the way of these fires we send our love and support!

Pay Attention to Your ‘Aha!’ Moments! – Richard’s Commentary

June 13, 2013 Leave a comment

In Rosemary’s “Inspiration” video this week she refers to an event we shared on Kauai, Hawaii’s Garden Island. I still use this moment, it only lasted for seconds, to remind myself of the exquisite nature of life, especially as we live it more and more consciously.

It was an overcast day and moving on toward late afternoon as we climbed that winding road up to Waimea Canyon. When we reached the park and canyon overlook, the clouds were thick and it was difficult to see into the canyon to any depth; the far side was shrouded. But as with everything in Hawaii it was still breathtaking. We were considering our return trip down that road full of hairpin turns when the setting sun broke through the clouds behind us and created that incredible double ring rainbow Rosemary describes, casting it on the far side of the canyon. As we stared in awe we noticed shadows at the rainbows’ center. Other tourists on a lower observation platform pointed at it and then up at us and shouted that they believed it was our shadows; we waved our arms and the shadows within the rainbows waved to us in unison! It was us!

This was an image and a feeling I will never forget. It was like Heaven reached down and blessed us. The sense of grace and peace was overwhelming. To this day I carry that image and the feeling as one of those fantastic (miraculous?) ‘Aha!’ moments in my life.Waimea-Canyon

(The picture here is of the Canyon and the lower observation platform. My picture of the rainbows has sadly gone missing!)

One of the exercises I have learned in my Qigong practice with Bridget Hughes is to cultivate the “Feeling State of the Divine.” This is a tremendously powerful healing state to build and to live within. An exercise to build this Feeling State is to recall moments in our lives in which that Feeling State was powerfully present. Well, you can bet this experience at Waimea Canyon is one of those Feeling States and I recall it frequently!

How do you cultivate that Feeling State of the Divine? It is a wonderful practice to help us remember who we are! And it is important, not just as a feel-good experience but as a tool to move into our center of power from which incredible transformation work can emerge. In Rosemary’s message from The Divine Feminine we read about the Earth transformations and the parallel transformations in human consciousness. One effects the other! Recall:

People need to know that their thoughts are creating their physical reality. There is a connection between the dimensions of Consciousness and Physical Existence on Planet Earth. Thoughts can cause a shift in physical reality and these thoughts depend on the beliefs behind them.

When our thoughts are focused on the Feeling State of the Divine we are in a deeply creative mode that can shift everything. In this time of great Earth Transformation it is our Human Consciousness Transformation that can and will make a difference.

Think good thoughts! Recall those Exquisite Feelings of the Divine, those “Aha Moments”, those Peak Experiences that help us transcend the petty, the small, the insignificant and transport us to that place of power and Love!

Walking Through Doorways

May 31, 2013 Leave a comment

It’s been a busy week! Walking through doorways of opportunity can occupy a lot of time. But when opportunities show up we have to respond or be left behind, at least as far as The Divine Feminine are concerned (ref: yesterday’s post).

My first door opened when I got serious about Qigong. I’ve blogged about this, my experience with Bridget Hughes for well over a year now, then my work with her teacher, Jeff Primack, culminating in certification to teach Qigong, and then launching my first two classes which begin next week. This is exciting enough! And yes, there is a bit of fear surrounding this; who am I to think I can teach Qigong! Well, I walked through the flaming doorway of opportunity, changed my mind about my ability (a long time ago I was an effective teacher of math and science) and announced my classes! I even have people signing up!

It seems that once opportunities show up and we say “yes” other opportunities follow. Last week I posted a recording of my message from The Other Side (post link). The main part of that message was from a Shaman Guide who basically told me to “access the shamanic world” more often. Well, I have followed this advice and have taken several journeys over the past week. And I have received guidance that with no uncertainty holds open a doorway of opportunity to get out there and do for others what I have been able to do for a few and have been hiding from for years now.

It is not cool to claim to be a Shaman. In the world of Shamanic Healing using traditional indigenous technologies that are millennia old, people don’t choose to be shamans, and when they are chosen they don’t necessarily walk around with a shaman’s badge pinned to their robes. If I feel a bit trepidatious about my Qigong classes imagine how I feel about this guidance to work with people using shamanic approaches to healing! This work is not for the faint of heart. I have a lot of training and I have a lot of warning that this is no easy path to follow.

But sometimes these doorways of opportunity, no matter how high the flames lick the posts, are easier to walk through than resist. And with that I revised my business card format and they just arrived fresh from the printer. Here it is:Biz-card-front

And the byline, “Shaman of the Heart,” is not a label I choose for myself. A dear friend, mentor and teacher, Baeth Davis, called me this a couple of years ago. That’s a long story but the short version is I have all loops for fingerprints which means I am in the School of Love, my Lessons are about Love and my Purpose is Love; hence the title!

I am standing in this burning doorway ready to leap through. I trust there is someone on the other side who has a hand outstretched to me to welcome me and perhaps even to reassure me. But this time of opportunity is not waiting for me. It is waiting for no one of us.

Are you ready to step or leap through that doorway of your opportunity? Do it; join me!

The Fever Story; 2nd and Final Chapter (and only the beginning!)

May 17, 2013 Leave a comment

Both Rosemary and I have been writing for some time about the importance of the times we are in; these times of great change, transformation. We are not alone in our sense and our gathering information and exploring the energies, vibrations, influences and characteristics of these times. If you are reading this blog and you are breathing then you know what we are talking and writing about. There is both a sense of great elation, of a coming freedom we have not yet known, and a sense of impending doom. I’ve heard many people speak of these “dire” times we have entered.

With this sense of great change afoot, I return to my story about my fever last week and what it means to me. My friends, the “Floating Heads” (ref: this post) had more to tell me about the meanings behind the illness:

QRS: Listen to the music: you are opening to love. Your chest is cracking open. Your body is the chrysalis that is splitting to reveal your inner splendor. This is a very vulnerable time for you. Feel it. Go with it. There is no putting it back together now. The butterfly in all her sensitivity and delicate style is emerging. Treat yourself very gently now. Watch and feel this process.

Be very careful with your emotions. Cry if that’s what you need. Don’t forget to laugh. Examine every moment as a new learning experience. Your “What is this?” question applies to every moment. Don’t waste a single one; examine everything as a curious child. No anger, no judgment, no second guessing. It all just is. Trust it all as perfection and part of the growth experience. Remember when you emerged from your first experience of a sweat lodge ceremony? It’s like that. You are birthing yourself out of the heart of the fever and gradually appearing as new creature. Learn all there is for you to gain in these next weeks and months. Receive. Don’t over-analyze. Accept. Breathe it all in as a wondrous New Being.

End of the story!

Now it’s up to me to do the work. And it’s all about awareness. It is about living in the moment and being inquisitive. “What is this?” It is living with this great mantra/koan/question: “What is this?” Awaken to curiosity – the curiosity of a child! With this curiosity comes delight. Lightness and laughter abound. This is the awakening I am called to and long for. This is it!

Why do I write all of this? Why am I telling you this personal story?

We are all in this together. I am not alone in my awakening journey. You are here with me. We are in the great transformation. Live it with me. Are you curious about what comes next? Join me in this curious, exciting, maybe dangerous, certainly delightful exploration of what comes next!

You are not alone!

Sunday’s Poem: Mothers

May 12, 2013 Leave a comment

In honor of all Mothers everywhere; where would we be without you?

Mothers

Where would we be without them?
The Universe is mostly “dark” matter.
Mother.
The Taoists have it right:
The dark is the womb;
The dark is the source
Of all the Suns!

Where would we be without Earth?
She is mostly feminine water.
Mother.
The Evolutionists have it right:
The Water is the womb;
The Water is the source
Of all Sons!

Where would we be without Eve?
She is mostly womanly love.
Mother.
The Biblists have it wrong:
Her love is the womb;
Her love is the source
Of All – not the fall!

Self-Forgiveness as a form of Self-Love

March 22, 2013 Leave a comment

In yesterday’s post I responded to Rosemary’s exploration about Self-Love – how it feels. And I touched on forgiveness as a way of letting go, freeing oneself of bonds that constrict one’s growth and interfere with Self-Love which in turn interferes with one’s ability to love at all!

Then it hits; the lesson! It seems that as soon as I begin to think deeply about something I get hit with the exact lesson to drive home the understanding! Yesterday we were under time-pressure to finalize Rosemary’s class for that evening, to put together the presentation and collect all the materials. Then the printer indicated low ink supply, so it was off to Staples for more. But here’s the thing: we had received a big discount offer in the mail earlier in the week; I planned to use it for more ink. The discount could only be used online but I did not get a chance to get the order placed. And now we needed ink immediately. I stormed out of the house, hair on fire with the time-crunch foremost in my mind, and raced off to get the additional supplies. Then to compound an already harried day, I left material behind when we raced off to the class. More rushing, now we are late, more storming around!

It’s tough to reach into Self for some Love under these circumstances! It can only start with forgiveness!

The lessons here are multi-layered but the main one is Self-forgiveness. I had intended to order the ink. But the week was busy and it didn’t get done. As it turned out I didn’t even need the ink yet; the printer only sent me a warning. Everything turned out fine, the class was a great success and my hair didn’t really catch on fire! And now I even have a story to base this post on!

I am calm now. And I did learn something today, again, that’s very important: every moment is a learning experience, or at least an opportunity. If we pause in the moment and ask: “What is this?” even in the midst of the chaos and flaming hair, then we can begin the learning process. If we get angry, impatient, frustrated, and harried there is no room for learning, and likely, no peace, no calm, no Love! But it is not an easy practice to stop in the midst of the chaos, deadlines, time-constraints and frustrating interruptions to ask: “What is this?” Yet, this is the lesson and this is why we are here!

And at the end of the day I even have to look back and forgive myself for not only my impatience and anger, but the failed practice! It just keeps on compounding!

But isn’t this what “practice” is all about? If it is no longer practice, then we would not need to be here. Our purpose will have been fulfilled.

For now I’m just going to keep on practicing. Self-forgiveness is a very big and necessary action for those of us with a lot of Wood Element in our make-up. This is a reference to the main element type, of five, that I resonate with from Dr. Charles Moss’ work: Power of the Five Elements.  I am nearly finished with the book, a fantastic reference for anyone interested in Chinese Medicine, the Tao, acupuncture and health. (I will review the book here once I have finished my detailed read of it.) Here is just a sample of why this book is helping with my practice:

“Forgiveness and patience, the Virtues associated with the Wood Type, come from the vision and insight of the Wood energy. These Virtues can neutralize frustration, anger, impatience, and hostility (the toxic emotions and actions of the poorly adapted Wood Type) and create a path back to adaptation.”

My practice continues to transform the toxic emotions into these Virtues, to create a path to adaptation, or what Dr. Moss calls “knowing how to be.”

What Does Self-Love Look Like? –Richard’s Commentary

March 21, 2013 Leave a comment

“Love creates. Love bonds. Love attracts and holds securely. Love frees. Love develops and Love lets go. Love releases bonds that no longer serve.”

When I first read Rosemary’s “litany” about Love, Paul’s letter to the Corinthians came to mind, that often used text in Christian weddings: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” (Quoted from the NIV Bible published by Zondervan.)

While these lists of what Love looks like are superficially very different, they certainly are parallel. Rosemary’s list is about creation and development. There are bonds in Love but those bonds need to serve, not hinder growth. And Paul’s description of Love can certainly apply to creative development, growth. His words almost more appropriately apply to the Love between parent and child; there is a definite paternal quality to his list which likely reflected his feelings toward the Corithians.

Then how do these descriptions of Love apply to Self-Love, the main topic of Rosemary’s post? Creation and development are key in Rosemary’s list. And I believe this is very true for Self-Love to grow and flourish. As humans we can never stop growing, Life is about learning our lessons. And these lessons are all about the evolution of Consciousness. The explosive creation of the Universe, out of Love, initiated this entire evolutionary expansion we find ourselves in the midst of. If we were loved into existence then isn’t it incumbent on us to continue that love-stream?

Then look at what Paul says in the context of Self-Love: it is all about development, growth of a child. What if we apply these actions of patience, kindness, recording no wrongs toward ourselves? This creates an environment for learning our lessons, for expanding our consciousness and contributing to the evolution of Consciousness.

Paul’s and Rosemary’s litanies about Love turn out to be highly parallel and mutually supportive!

And what if we treat ourselves as they both implore? Rosemary says “Love releases bonds that no longer serve.” And Paul says Love “keeps no record of wrongs.” These words are describing forgiveness. And, for me, Self-Love and self-forgiveness are closely bound. There can’t be one without the other. I can only love myself from the capacity to forgive myself. And I can only forgive myself from that secure base of Self-Love.

When I am feeling low I sometimes need to drag out that “record of wrongs” I keep on myself and remember they are past wrongs that I need to let go; I need to release those “bonds that no longer serve.” This is a recurring theme for me; forgiving myself is at the base of picking myself up by my own bootstraps.

“Love is kind, it is not rude, it is not easily angered.” “Love frees.” I need to apply these words to me, often and always. Then perhaps I’ll more easily know what Self-Love does look like. And then, too, I’ll be contributing more to the evolution of Consciousness!

What does Self-Love look like for you?

ROSEMARY’S EXPLORATION: What Does Self-Love Look Like?

March 20, 2013 Leave a comment

For each individual the specifics of Self-Love will differ, but the underlying energy is the same.

Love is a very high vibration, much higher than Romance, with which many people confuse Love.  The energy of Pure Love is the vibrational frequency of the unifying force of the Universe.  Love creates.  Love bonds.  Love attracts and holds securely.  Love frees.  Love develops and Love lets go.  Love releases bonds that no longer serve.

These statements are true for every element in the Universe, from the smallest particle of matter to the energy of a human being to the largest planets, stars, galaxies.  Love is the strongest force in the Universe.

All Love flows from Self-Love.  The Universe-before-the-Universe so loved itself that it exploded into the Universe that you are experiencing at this time in the 21st Century.  Everything that exists in this Universe was created out of energy potential of the Love that existed in that explosion of Self-Love.  Every Universe came from that same energy.

In the life of every human being, there must be enough Self-Love to explode energy – that is the creative force energy – to manifest dreams into reality.  If there is not enough Self-Love, then energy is sucked into oneself without the pure expression of Love energy in the outer world.

Those who exist with little or no Self-Love cannot manifest their high vibration dreams and desires.

All Love blossoms out of Self-Love.  If you have a high enough level of this Self-Love then you cannot help but overflow into sharing that Love as Creative Energy in the world around you.

No relationship improves by working on it without also elevating one’s level of Self-Love.  No situation – job, career, financial, legal, etc. – will improve before the person involved increases the level of Self-Love within.

What does this look like?

For one person, Self-Love might appear as eating a healthier diet.  For another, it might be taking time to meditate or journal or walk in Nature.  For someone else, Self-Love may mean severing a friendship, ending a relationship or quitting a job.

One person might need to speak their truth aloud.  Another might need to stay quiet and change their situation.

The high vibration of Self-Love eclipses lashing out to hurt another but that doesn’t mean that others might not choose to feel hurt or even to play the victim in the situation.  Self-Love leads one to stand in their own truth no matter what happens outside and around them.  There is no intention to hurt another and yet there is also no responsibility for the reception one receives when standing in Self-Love.

Self-Love is not the same as Self-Care but all Self-Care develops out of Self-Love if it is healthy care.  One does not rebel or feel guilty when Self-Care stems from Self-Love.  There is a neutral character to this Self-Care—it just IS because it is based in Self-Love.

Ask yourself if you Love yourself enough to make choices from a place of Self-Love.  Are you willing to look inside yourself and to love every part that you find there?  Are you open to loving even those parts that you are wishing to change, simply because they are YOU and they have served you in some way up to this point?

Self-Acceptance and Self-Care come from Self-Love.  As the Universe loved itself into existence, so should your Life be a reflection of great Self-Love.  If you are unhappy about some element of your Life, then focus on increasing your level of Self-Love so that your Life can change to reflect that higher level of Love vibration.

Love your Life into existence as you desire, letting it blossom forth from Self-Love.
